It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas….
I LOVE Christmas music.
Christmas music makes me happy. Think if I listened to it year-round I’d be happy all the time? It’s worth a shot. Today I told J.T. that I was going to blog about Christmas music and he said I always stole all his good posts, which is a lie; I’ve only done it once. BUT, I’m doing it now before he does. So HA!
My favorite religious Christmas songs are "O, Holy Night," "O, Little Town of Bethlehem," "We Three Kings," and "The First Noel." My favorite secular Christmas song is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," no matter who sings it. I also love Vince Vance and the Valiants’ "All I Want for Christmas Is You," The Eagles’ "Please Come Home for Christmas," The Carpenters’ "Merry Christmas Darling," John Lennon’s "Happy Christmas (War is Over)," Etta James’ "Merry Christmas Baby," Joni Mitchell’s "River," U2’s "Baby Please Come Home," Nat King Cole’s "I Saw Three Ships," The Vienna Boys’ Choir’s "Still, Still, Still," Rosemary Clooney’s "Let it Snow," Frank Sinatra’s "Jingle Bells," Dr. Demento’s "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," Harry Connick, Jr.’s "Ave Maria," Nat King Cole/Dean Martin’s "Buon Natale," Diana Krall’s "The Man with the Bag," The Vince Guaraldi Trio’s "Christmastime is Here," Brian Wilson’s "Christmasey," Johnny Mathis’ "We Need a Little Christmas," and The Beach Boys’ "Little Saint Nick." [whisper]I also like Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas is You." Yeah, I said it. Shut up. [/whisper] I love those Ultra-Lounge Christmas Cocktails jazz cds. I hate Rudolf and Frosty and that pesky Little Drummer Boy.
That’s all. I don’t have anything else to say except that Christmas music makes me all warm and fuzzy and I’m soooo happy that I can listen to it now. What? I don’t care. My name is Jamie Hawkins and I am a Christmas music ADDICT.

Good old Johnny Mathis, he’s a Christmas classic. Also, there is no shame in Mariah, everyone secretly loves that song, how can that not?

one of my favorite Christmas memories… last year I was in my apt with The Blond and The Brunette, and we were addressing Christmas cards and listening to Christmas music and not really talking much, and that song came on, and I said casually that “this song always makes me want to shake my bootie” and Tonya said “I’m sure that I speak for myself and Liza when I say… you know… go for it.” So I did. Alone. The entire song. It was fan-effing-tastic. If I do say so myself. And I do.

Of course you say so yourself, because if you don’t, who will? Think about it.

Sledgehammer to a “1st Christmas together” tree ornament, Jamie… right when the piano kicks in to C-Am-F-G chord progression. One day, that will be our opening scene. (of course, I need the rest of the movie too… damn…)

Pesky, huh? Never-the-less, I will continue to play my drum for Him. (Your fondness for Oh Holy Night is the only thing keeping me from rapping my drumstick on your noggin’.)

yes, yes, YES! I LOOOOOOVE Christmas music. and i hate anyone who complains about how early they start playing it in the stores! i commonly find myself humming Christmas tunes throughout the year.
ok, you know what…mariah can blow. no shame in diggin’ mariah. my confessionary (word?) Christmas song: Baby its cold outside by Jessican Simpson and Nick Lachey. although it will be difficult to hear it now that they are splitsville.
thats right, i like jessica simpson. suck it. and you wanna talk about O Holy Night? wow. that girl can hit it.
ok, so i also like the older stuff, like from the Platters (loooove the platters).
and Elvis…..LOTS of Elvis.
have i sufficiently shamed myself yet, haha!!

I used to have 3 versions of “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch”. One by Tennesee Ernie Ford, one by Sixpence None The Richer, and one by Jim Carrey. Great song. Did you know that copies of “Feliz Navidad” actually outsold “White Christmas”? Im college, Benji and I used to drive around playing “Feliz Navidad”, and singing at the top of our lungs. I love that song. I’m sure that will change now that I’m living in a place with a thriving hispanic population. Or I cold just embrace the culture, and adopt “Riu Chiu” by the Monkees. GREAT song.
But no Christmas would be complete without “Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC, and “Santa Baby” by the West Coast Rap All-Stars, featuring, Onyx, Mase, Snoop Dogg, Salt-n-Pepa, Run DMC, and Mary J. Blige.
Represent.

ooooh, I like “Riu Chiu,” too. Add that to my list. And the “Baby, it’s Cold Outside” by Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschnael. And when Robert Downey, Jr. sang “River” on Ally McBeal…. OH… MY…. GAAAAAH.

Zooey and who?!? You mean that wasn’t Will Ferrell? I feel disillusioned and bamboozled. It may be long time, like 36 hours, before I can watch Elf again.

I also forgot to mention this: WHAT THE HELL is with people thinking “My Favorite Things” (from Sound of Music) is a Christmas song?
Also, I really like “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” especially Karen Carpenter.

OMG. Forget everything I said before - my ALL-TIME-ACE-HIGH-NUMBER-ONE favorite Christmas song is - “The Night Santa Went Crazy” by “Weird” Al Yankovic.
Seriously.

And “Do You See What I See?”!!!
Goulet!

How about “Christmas is All Around” from Love Actually? I know that is a new one, but still gets me in the mood! =D

I’m a little late to the game…but I’d like to say that I absolutely adore “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses.
